This week Lindsay is joined by This Years' Best Host - my Podcasting Brother - Brent Petersen.  And the get on a horse and start to sing - Django!.  That's right it's a Double Django with Sergio Corbucci's  Django from 1966 & Quinton Tarantino's  Django Unchained from 2012.  And we cannot get that Django Theme Song out of our head, and that is the way he like it.  Django!  Brent and Lindsay sing a lot in this episode and we apologize.  This is a Double Feature that celebrates The Spaghetti Western and other forms of Exploitation Cinema and why we love it so.  So all together, one, two, three......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, DIR J L THOMPSON, 1981 & NEW YORK RIPPER DIR LUCIO FULCI 1982      The Slasher genre has it's roots firmly in the Murder Mystery.  It's the Italian's who give the murder mystery a more kill and gore focus: Blood and Black Lace ,  The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Torso .  Incredibly stylish movies with fashion, wealth and a killer often in black gloves.  What is important, especially for the movies I am going to be talking about; is the camera taking the POV or the Killer POV.  Something the later Slasher genre would take up with gusto, as the 1980s slid into masks and machetes, where the the final girl and  body count was more the primary objective.  At the Slasher's height, in the early 1980s, you see the melding with Giallo, as the two movies Happy Birthday to Me and The New York Ripper shows.  They are both Hodge Podge of Hitchcock, mystery, gore, kills but on completely different spectrum of film making.  One movie is all plot the o

Wes Craven Kick Part 3 - I am a Child of the 1990s

I was born in the ealry 1980s but I am a child of the 1990s.        It is the decade I grew up, the decade where my tastes really formed.  I like snappy dialogue, flannel shirts, boot leg jeans and short skirts.  I had a Rachel as a teenager.   It was in the 1990s where I became to really love going to the movies.  Almost every week I went to the cinema.  It's not surprising that it's this decade of Wes Craven's work that I really conncet with.  I didn't know it the time, but Craven was one of those directors that shaped by tastes as much as Tim Burton and Steven Spielberg.  And it's in this decade where Craven really hits his stride and makes some of his great movies that changed where horror went, yet again.
