WONDER WOMAN (2017) - DIRECTED BY PATTY JENKINS  PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN (2017) - DIRECTED BY ANGELA ROBINSON Two movies that are about the same subject, but covering different aspects and styles.        Patty Jenkins' Blockbuster Wonder Woman from 2017 made a huge splash culturally and fiscally.  While Angela Robinson's The Professor and The Wonder Women is a much smaller intimate movie that follows the relationship between Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston and his inspirations that lead to to the Goddess's creation. One is a Blockbuster, a mammoth investment that was meant to be part of a huge D.C shared universe.  Professor Marston and the Wonder Women , while still distributed by Sony  (a smaller section of Sony, the section that likes awards) is a smaller and intimate movie, a single focus concerned with the inner emotions and desires of the characters.  One movie designed  to get the largest audience they can for that all important opening

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, DIR J L THOMPSON, 1981 & NEW YORK RIPPER DIR LUCIO FULCI 1982      The Slasher genre has it's roots firmly in the Murder Mystery.  It's the Italian's who give the murder mystery a more kill and gore focus: Blood and Black Lace ,  The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Torso .  Incredibly stylish movies with fashion, wealth and a killer often in black gloves.  What is important, especially for the movies I am going to be talking about; is the camera taking the POV or the Killer POV.  Something the later Slasher genre would take up with gusto, as the 1980s slid into masks and machetes, where the the final girl and  body count was more the primary objective.  At the Slasher's height, in the early 1980s, you see the melding with Giallo, as the two movies Happy Birthday to Me and The New York Ripper shows.  They are both Hodge Podge of Hitchcock, mystery, gore, kills but on completely different spectrum of film making.  One movie is all plot the o

The tale of Two Families: Hereditary (2018), Written and Directed by Ari Aster Insidious Chapter 2, Written by Leigh Wannell, Director James Wan In  recent years the term ‘Elevated’ or ‘Social’ Horror has term flung around for a certain kind of Horror Movie.  It’s a difficult term to define.  Is it a more emotionally complex slow burn horror that has been made with the likes of It Follows, The VVitch, and the criminally under seen Doctor Sleep.  Or is it the Horror that people or critics that think is good.  The 2010s is the decade when Get Out and Shape of Water won Oscars, and very deserved ones.  It could be argued that ‘Elevated Horror’ doesn’t really exists, that it’s just it marketing tool.
